How it works

Your door is where noctok starts: from here, you launch your chats and reach everything else.

• The availability handle
  Use the handle to set your availability. Sign on green, you can receive chat requests. Sign on red, you're unavailable.

• The search ring
  Knock (Knock Knock) on the ring to launch a search: noctok calls available noctokers who share a tag and a language with you. If you both accept, the chat opens.

A tag is a topic: you don't pick a person, you pick what you feel like talking about.

• Favorites
  These are the tags you keep handy for your searches. You pick them in "My favorite tags" and they stay from one day to the next. How many you can have depends on your noctok plan.

• Today's tags
  During the day, you can change your favorites to try other tags, up to your noctok plan's limit. Every day, you only keep your current favorites.

• History
  Find your most recently used tags to put them back in your favorites faster.

• Browse tags
  All noctok tags in alphabetical order, with a search. A good way to find ideas for your favorites.

• Popular and recent tags
  "My favorite tags" shows what's being searched for the most right now. The latest tags and, depending on your noctok plan, today's promoted tags scroll at the bottom of your door. Plenty of new ideas.

They define who noctok connects you with: noctokers who are online and available and who have a tag and a language active in common with you.

• Languages
  Choose the languages you want to chat in.

• Active tags
  Activate from your favorites and the tags offered by noctok (meetups, hot topics, major themes...) the ones for your next chats.

• Prioritized calls
  Depending on your noctok plan, the search calls noctokers matching your preferences first. If none match, it continues without taking them into account.

A chat is you and one other person, in writing, around a shared tag.

• The chat
  It opens when you both accept. It ends when one of you leaves or after 10 minutes with no messages.

• Becoming buddies
  After a chat, a question shows up. If you both answer yes, you become buddies and your profiles unlock: gender, photo, and description, if filled in.

• Calling a buddy
  When a buddy is online and available with a tag and a language in common with you, you can call them directly without a Knock Knock on your door.

Missing a topic? Together with other noctokers, you make the list of tags grow.

• Suggest a tag
  Your number of suggestions per week depends on your noctok plan. Free suggestions kick in once those are used up.

• Vote
  Vote for or against suggested tags, one at a time.

• Promotion
  Tags at the top of the ranking get promoted: they join noctok and everyone can then pick them as favorites.

Some tags are free: you don't need them in your favorites to talk (chat) about them.

• Meetups
  A tag, a date, and a time to chat about the same topic. At that time, the tag is free for all noctokers until late at night.

• The board
  On your door, it shows today's meetups and the hot topics of the moment.

• Free tags
  In your search options, you'll find meetup tags and hot topics, promoted tags depending on your noctok plan, and major common themes.

Two ways to get more out of noctok without paying a thing.

• Gift cards
  When your mailbox opens, a gift card is waiting for you. Flip it to try to win one of the prizes offered by noctok.

• Invite and enjoy
  Your invitation link earns you tag suggestions and free noctok plans, to activate whenever you like.

noctok is free. Paid plans are purchased once, with no auto-renewal.

• What changes
  More favorites and tag suggestions, your chat history with buddies, promoted tags, and prioritized calls.

• Your level
  Each noctok plan matches a level. The active level is always the highest one among your ongoing purchases and free plans.

Nothing invasive: your notifications stay on noctok and you stay in control of news by mail.

• Notifications
  Nothing pops up on your phone, you find them when you come to noctok: photo approved or rejected, tag promoted or banned, report handled, new buddy, and messages from noctok.

• Emails
  noctok news arrives by mail and you can turn it off in "Alerts". Even if you turn it off, noctok may still send you a mail for maintenance, security, important service updates, or moderation of your account.

Your account belongs to you: change it or leave whenever you like.

• Your info
  Change your profile, photo, and languages in "My info", as well as your password.

• Block a noctoker
  Blocking is mutual and you can lift it in "Blocked noctokers".

• Leave noctok
  Log out, deactivate your account (reversible) or delete it.
