On noctok, it all happens while you're on it. You open the app and, with the sign on green, you're available. You leave it, you vanish off the radar. Nobody can contact you if you're not there.
During a conversation (chat), life goes on. A call, a message, a glance elsewhere. You have a few minutes to come back. Once that time is up, noctok considers you gone and the chat ends. The other person is informed, so they're not left waiting in the void. Same thing when the chat runs out of steam. Several minutes without a word and the chat closes on its own.
